ABSTRACT
Environmental conditions prevailing in the state of Yucatan, with high temperature and relative humidity, favor the use of air conditioners to achieve thermal comfort. Water is produced as a byproduct of the use of such cooling systems which is usually discarded. Given the possibility that climate change can reduce the amount of rainfall in the state, the goal of this study is to evaluate collected water characteristics and how much water can be collected from atmosphere under different weather conditions. During the course of the experiment water was collected from air conditioners operating in periods of 30 minutes to 2 hours, keeping the temperature fixed inside the rooms and under different outdoor atmospheric conditions. Collected volumes were measured and evaluated for electrical conductivity and pH. The best conditions for collecting agreed with high outdoor temperatures and low wind speed. A model was developed to estimate the volume of uptake as a function of environmental variables.
