Abstract

The development and implementation of finite element models in the structural analysis of members, connections and systems represent a very valuable tool for the prediction of their response and behavior. Results obtained from the finite element analysis of column-tree connections with end plates are presented and discussed in this paper. Material properties, boundary conditions, load patterns and combinations, normal and tangential contact were considered in the numerical model, as well as the effect of the bolts pre-tensioning. The evaluation of the results, based on the numerical simulations with finite element analysis, confirms a good correlation with the response that is reported in the experimental tests, which allows its implementation for the prediction of the structural response in moment resisting frame systems.
